I doubt it would be possible. The 24 cylinder is shorter and would require a good bit of the mag barrel to be set back which would mess up the length of the area the ejector rod must occupy.
I installed a 6 inch Model 29 barrel on my 624. I had to cut the barrel shoulder back in my lathe, trim the rear of the barrel to get the barrel/cylinder gap correct, and then re-cut the forcing cone. As far as I remember, I did have to shorten the ejector rod and knurl the end of it again, but it wasn't a problem.
I'm not sure what to do about changing the 44 Magnum to 44 Special on the barrel though.
Thank you both for the replys. Looks like setting the barrel back 40 thousands would about do it, and maybe shortening the ejector rod, same. Will talk to the machinist and see. Thank you again. 624 cylinder length was 1.580 629 length ???
.040" won't do it. The 629 cylinder is 1.700", the barrel shank comes into my 624 .235", on my 629 it's only .110". You would need to cut it back 1/8" and shorten the ejector rods the same. Nice work Bill.
