Hello, I had a few questions about a couple of 629-1's I own. I would appreciate any and everyone's time and input. Thank You

Listed below are the 3 629-1's. Pictured from the bottom up.

1.SN #N925
2.SN #AHS3
3.SN #AVY9

Are the grips on the N serial number gun (bottom one) original? I know they said the the speedloader grips came out in the 80's or so, so I wasn't sure. I believe these are the "football" grips?

The AVY SN gun has a slight modification to the lug. Instead of being sort of being more narrow like the older guns it is full. Could you tell me if this has a certain name?

The football stocks are correct on the N gun. The full cutout started in about late '82/early '83. The lug deal is something I've asked about myself here a while back. The answer was " with S&W, who knows?" My guess is it was started as a cost cutting measure, since it requires one less machining operation.

I have several of both styles, some from the same time period even. Mine are blued guns.

I much prefer the tapered version.

Thanks

I never knew what I was getting in to when I started buying S&W Pistols...it has become ridiculous and I dont want to buy anything else. I just keep buying what I can find in the right price range.
