Thanks!

You got me on this one. Are you asking about something specific?

I do not recall ever seeing a Model 929 with an 8 3/8" barrel. The longest I have seen is the 6 1/2" barrel.

Do you have the 6 digit product code(SKU) of the revolver you are referring to?

Next what scope mount are you referring to? Did this longer barrel 929 come with a mount and rings from the factory?

ALL Smith & Wesson revolvers made in the last 25 or so years left the factory drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Companies like Allchin, Weigand and others make mounts that can be purchased from eBay, Brownells, Amazon or your favorite on-line vendor

You can mount any of the red dots or long eye relief scopes available for handguns using a wide assortment of rings

Maybe a model 629-1 with an 8 3/8's barrel? 44 magnum?
The 929 is up to a no dash only and only has a 6.5" barrel. And is also 9mm.

I know some of those 44 magnums had specific rings that would attach to the barrel for a scope. .. if it's any help, I seen some recently on ebay in stainless. With the logos. I do not remember how much they cost. But it wouldn't hurt to look.

You can get a scope base for the 629 from Smith & Wesson or from Brownell's. Brownell's is also a good place to look for your scope rings.

Thanks, the product code was 103615 (1989) Two scope rings and two mounting bases came with the gun, the one I am looking at does not have them.

I believe those rings were made by Millet specifically for your gun and a similarly configured 29 - they are unobtainium. A buddy went to his grave without finding those same rings for his 29.

The scope rings for the integral mounts on the S&W revolvers (I have the 8 3/8 Model 686 version) are special rings made by Millet for S&W. The rings are fragile, and I have not been able to buy any spares for the last 20 years.
If anybody knows a source, please share.

I think we need to make some! :D 3D Printer anyone?

Do you seriously expect to buy it at 2017 prices, the date that auction closed?

The part that breaks on the rings is the tiny cast tab that clamps to the gun. Probably need to machine it from forged steel?

Got you

Big difference between the Model 929 and a Model 629

Even if someone created replica rings via 3d printing or other means, it is not original and would not increase the revolvers value to most of the collectors.

As too shootability, an after market scope mount and rings would be much more stable and reliable while costing less

Snagged it and possible mounts?

Well, it's headed my way, should be fun if nothing else, these came with .500" TH, .400" serrated TT, RR front sight and WO rear. 4810 of them made in 1989. (according to the bible) :D

Found these Millett mounts on EBay, we'll see if they fit...

Thanks for all the info. M

I have an older model 41 that I bought with these on it . Don't know if it was factory or what brand, but these have been rock solid. Of course it only a 22.
Couldnt remember what type this pair was, put them away some years ago.Not the same type , still haven't got around to using them yet.

629-1 Rings

The original rings for that gun were made by Millet and the Millet Angle Loc rings of today WILL NOT TIGHTEN UP on the barrel!

This is the 586 with the same set-up for the Millet rings!
This is the piece that causes the problem. It is the clamp that goes into the recessed cuts on the barrel. You will see the difference in the bottom portion of the clamp;

Many years ago there was a post from someone that altered the Angle Loc of today to work properly. If memory serves, he milled the ring base to allow the clamp to seat deeper!

Thanks! Very useful information, I love a good challenge, so I look forward to seeing what I can do. If they don't work, I still have a long pipe 29 with a little interesting history. Do you know what grips came with these??
