629 V Comp Info Requested

I am contemplating purchasing a new 629 V-Comp PC gun.
I am looking for opinions from folks who have them and would like some input or impression of the gun as you have owned it.
You know the usual, how it shoots, how do you like the comp, is the trigger what they said it would be, does the ball detent hold up…

I have many Smith models so I am not looking for "comparison" models in the 6 and or 29 areas.

While I don't have the 629 V-Comp, I do have a PC 629 Stealth Hunter. While not exactly the same, they share some features so I'll reply. I can tell you that the Performance Center guns do have a superior trigger than the regular models, no question about it. The ball and detent lock up has held up for me so far very well (couple of thousand rounds down the pipe). One thing that you didn't mention but is important: the cylinder lock up on my PC gun is tighter than regular models that I've handled.

I can't testify as to how the V-Comp shoots, but my Stealth Hunter shoots like a laser if I do my part. Of course, the barrel is much longer than the V-Comp though. I suspect that the V-Comp will shoot better than the standard models in the same barrel length due to the hand tuned nature of it. My barrel is factory Magnaported and only has two ports compared to the V-Comp removable compensator, so I can't tell if it's doing much in the recoil reduction department. It still seems like it's recoiling pretty hard. Your V-Comp compensator can be removed if you don't like it, so it won't be an issue. It seems like the compensator would work better than my little Magnaporting because it has more and bigger channels.

I want to get a 629 V-Comp also for my next big bore revolver. I want something smaller than the humongous and heavy Stealth Hunter. I think that the V-Comp is just the right size and weight for me. Since I'm only 5' 4" tall, I always get strange looks when that 50 something ounce beast with the 7+ inch barrel comes out of the range bag.

Though expensive, the Performance Center guns are worth it in my opinion. The V-Comp is impossible to find in stock, at least in my area, so I'd be buying one without being able to actually handle it, but judging by my experience with other PC guns, I wouldn't hesitate.

I had a V Comp pre-lock. I didn't like the removable muzzle comp thing- I never understood the point of that. I traded it to a friend of mine.

I have the pre-lock version. I have never noticed any downsides.
It's one of my favorites. I have only used the comp end and like it.

I have one. It is a decent gun. But frankly the trigger isn't much better than a stock k-frame and certainly doesn't hold a candle to my 66 that Mike Carmoney worked on. If I had it to do over again, I would buy a 629 Mountain gun instead. YMMV.
