I'm thinking of getting my CCW next month. My 637 has Crimson Trace grips. Should I remove them for the class? It almost seems like cheating, but I really have no idea since I have not done this before. Thanks for any advice.

Nevadavx,

I have crimson trace on all my personal defense pistols and regularly train or give training to others with them on. Not sure of the model you have but mine have an on/off switch as you can turn them off for specific shooting evolutions such as a battery failure and use the fixed sights or a point shooting technique to go with. As far as a using them in a CCW class, unless the instructor has a problem using them, I would as the old saying goes "train as you fight and you will fight as you have been trained" or words to that effect.

As with most weapons you need to establish useful motor skills. If you have CT grips, use them to your best advantage.

Just my humble opinion, as I am sure others will chime in.

Remember the fist fast accurate shot goes home, and that needs to be you!

Stay safe,

Agreed.

As far as "cheating" goes, the live fire portion of concealed carry classes (at least all those I'm aware of) is more to demonstrate knowledge of how to safely operate a firearm than it is about marksmanship.

Have you ever heard of anyone failing their CCW "qualification"?

If it were me I would use it with the laser on and the laser off throughout the class. Hopefully you also practice with the iron sights in case the laser dies.

Actually, I always practice with iron sites. I just picked up the CTC and was wondering which grips to use at the class. This is the LG-105, which has no on/off switch.

Thanks for all the great replies.
