638 Airweight

Boogsawaste, After looking at your photo I realized my #3 mentioned above is a Blackhawk! as well. I do have an older #3 Uncle Mikes, it fits my J frames as you pictured.

The Blackhawk! versions are apparently a bit more roomy then the earlier Uncle Mikes. If I can ever pry myself out of my chair I'll take a photo to show the difference.

Steeltoejoe, I can't vouch for the Cape May instructors as I did my boot at Alameda and qualified on well-worn 1911A1s. That was a long time ago... Certainly can't argue with your results!

OK, I broke suction from the recliner and shot the attached photos showing an original Uncle Mikes #3, Blackhawk! #3 and #4 pocket holsters for comparison.

Well Coastie, now we all use snub nose J frames!

...

And that is my post for April fool's day.

Again thanks everyone for the replies. Good stuff.

attn Coastie, Boogsawaste

Hold the line fellas! Coastie, you must have an earlier version of the Blackhawk. My local Walmart has Blackhawk pocket jobs which are a virtual dupe of the original UM with that crosswise black elastic (?) band. They've been stocked in that store for the 4 years I've been out here.

Now to more serious matters. Looks like a wider trigger on your 36. And what about that stub hammer on the 637? Dying to learn what you've done on these jewels. Never realized you like J-frames. Always thought you had a little machine in the basement turning out 625s.

Kaaskop49, you have a sharp eye! I like them all!

I installed a wider (.312?) smooth trigger on the 36, I've always preferred them for double action work.

The 637-2 was my first J-frame. Ironically I had been looking for a 638. When I went to order one from Buds they were out of stock but they had a 637. After carrying it for awhile I performed a light trim on the hammer to shorten the spur and create a rounded profile. There is still plenty of the spur present to permit single action cocking (or decocking) if required yet greatly reduces the "snagability".

In addition to those, here is my 640-3 in one of Rays IWB masterpieces. At some point I'll pick up a 638 and/or a 649 to round out the J-collection. Or a 442... Or a 60.... Or................
