Is there such a thing as a 638 no-lock? I know about the original model 38 but wondered if S&W made the 638 in no-lock or if they have any plans to.

Is there a blue no-lock version of the bodyguard - besides the original model 38.

Thanks,

Yes Smith did make a 638 no lock, I looked for a long time before I found/stumbled into mine. Mine is a 638-2, they are out there, you just have to find them, there kind of like hens teeth. Goodluck on your hunt :D

Mine's a 638-2 as well... My first S&W and definitely a keeper! I wasn't aware they were so hard to locate...

Good luck in your search!

If you ever see a Model 638 with no lock, buy it! They are very hard to find.

I did not know this either. My wife bought me one for Christmas right after the academy and it's been a daily carry piece ever since. It does not look anywhere near as nice as Surfdogs.

They can't be that rare. I own 2 and I have a co-worker/friend who owns another one...all 3 are no-lock. My two were purchased new a few years apart.

There were only 1200 of the 638 no dash and -1 guns made in one year (1989). The re-introduction pre-lock 638's on the magnum frame are probably a bit easier to find but still not common. I've been shopping Airweights for five or so years and I've never seen.
