Comparing the trigger action of new 640-1 Pro Series to my model 40. The model 40 trigger resets with 2 audible clicks, the second producing the most movement of the cylinder stop. The 640-1 has 3 audible clicks, the second producing the most movement of the cylinder stop. If I cycle the trigger to cylinder lock but no hammer fall both only click twice on reset. When I hold the 640 up to my forehead with the barrel pointing to my left and the cylinder centered on my nose I hear the first 2 clicks in my left ear and the third in my right. I think it may be the DA sear in the hammer resetting. Need to know if this is normal to the 640-1 as 40+ years of firing the model 40 has me conditioned to feeling and hearing 2 clicks and a few times during fast dry fire practice I haven't let the trigger fully reset.

I don't feel, hear, or otherwise experience any clicks while releasing the trigger of my 640-1 Pro.

I don't just shoot the 640-1 Pro. Each handgun can feel differently. Especially with my double-action revolvers, I must ensure letting the trigger to fully extend/reset to prevent myself from pulling the trigger again with some type of false reset.

My favorite revolvers are J-Frames, both either with exposed hammers (but shot double-action) or Centennials (enclosed hammer, double-action-only), and a slightly different feeling Ruger LCRX (again, usually shot double-action even though it can be hammer-cocked for a single action trigger pull).

Some folks will stay in contact with the trigger during the trigger reset (trigger returning forward) as I was often taught using my Glocks; while other folks will pretty much let their finger off the trigger letting the trigger rebound as quickly as possible. I think any perceived clicking of the action becomes "moot" during trigger & action resetting. I've likely digressed during my response, sorry.

I noticed the same three clicks with my 640 Pro. After shooting and dry firing it a bunch, I can now only hear two.

640-1 trigger

I should mention when I first got the 640-1 this January the trigger failed to reset(hung up) 3 times during around 250 dry fires and I sent it back to S&W. Parts were replaced. My opinion is that the trigger should never fail to reset no matter what, and I have been releasing the trigger as slowly as possible trying to get it to do so. Probably why I can hear and feel it that good. It hung up once right out of the box from S&W but not since I cleaned and lubed it. Have around 200 dry fires and no live fire now. Sure wish the trigger was as smooth as that old Model 40 though!

The 3 clicks as the trigger resets is normal and not even noticeable unless you release the trigger very slowly. I have an old 640-1, from the very first production batch. If I release the trigger very, very slowly, I can detect 3 clicks as it resets. Mine has seen lots of dry firing and a good amount of live firing.
