Hello All,

Just bought a nice condition Centennial Model 640 stainless in .38 special at a good California pice of $360. It’s weird I can’t find it in my third edition Standard catalog. I guess it may be newer than 2006? I may just be totally missing it in the book.

Please help me date this model, the Ser. is BSC95xx

Sorry no good pictures as it’s still in California Gun Jail...

MRLOUIEV, if you bought a nice Model 640 here in CA for $360 you bought it for about $200 less than market value. Congratulations. It is one of the best S&W's made since 1982 in my opinion.

Yes thank you! I was surprised at it too! With the knowledge i’ve Gained on this forum I checked it out and it looks good. Locks up tight, no cylinder play, bright bore, forcing cone good, yoke not cracked.

It was in my consignment case of my local lgs. Funny thing is they had gotten in the day before and the previous owner was st the counter purchasing a new j frame “air weight” 642 with the ils. The sales person said he was upgrading. To each their own, I guess if you carry the air weight is better but here in California It’s hard to walk into a store and buy an old pre lock smith at a nice price.
