Yes, they have recently done a limited production run of their 442, with a magna ported barrel.

Here's a link. Product: Model 442 Mag-Na-Ported-Barrel

I picked one up. They're about $100 more than a regular 442, but the magnaporting will cost you about the same not including the shipping both ways, so it all equals out in the end.

I have a limited run 640 PC carry comp. run of 150? matched serial number to my 686 PC carry comp!

And by the way, a 640 PC Carry comp is on GunsAmerica right now!!

642 Powerport

Here's my 642 :Powerport w/ Ahrends grip. Other than excessive report and muzzle flash,it's a hoot to shoot!

Here is my 640 PC 357 Magnum. I wonder how many of these were produced?

I have one of the Perfomance Center's Quad Ported model 640s.

640s were also manufactured with a single expansion chamber compensator forward of the front sight that S&W often calls a Power Port. My Performance Center Model 60 has that kind of barrel.

Dang, I learn something new every day as I wasn't aware of a 640 port from Smith'.

Anyway, I had and recently sold my 642-Power-Port but it didn't come with a night sight. I had ToolTeckh fab one into a spare front sight but frankly, it was pretty small to see and not worth the expense IMO. You guys know the drill... 'seemed like' a good idea at the time'... Maybe someday (not likely at this point) I'll learn that good enough, really is 'good enough'.
Regards,

We have two Mag-Na-Ported 649s from the factory. Makes a big difference in the .357.

When I googled 640 Carry comp - it gave me pics of a carry comp with one expansion chamber in front of the front sight and another photo of a 640 with ports at the 10-11 o'clock postion on the barrel.....Are these the same models!?

The second one you saw is probably an aftermarket Mag-Na-Port job. The photos on this page show the factory version.

Has anyone ever seen the 640 with one large comp in front of the sight?

"Did S&W ever sell a ported 640?
or a ported J frame??? "

Porting is the best thing since sliced bread, as far as I'm concerned. My 637 PowerPort with Presentation Pachs and Hornady CD +P ammo does not have a lot of flash in low light, it does not spit or blow gas at anyone or sound louder or have any other ill effects such as noticeably reduced velocity you often hear about. It has quickly become my all time favorite carry revolver (light, good DA trigger and very controllable for fast, accurate follow up shots), and I've been shooting for over half a century.
Many years ago I rifle-ported my 9" Ruger Super Red Hawk .44 Mag and turned it into a ***** cat. My ported Model 60 .357 was the second best carry gun I've ever owned.
That said, the only time porting failed to significantly soften felt recoil was with the absurdly hard recoiling 329, but, in fairness, I should have tried quadra porting rather than just the normal dual porting.

Talk about serendipity! My first visit to this forum and I find a current thread about my ported 357 which gives me the opportunity for my first post: pics of my "barbecue" gun. :D
