Hello all,

I'm wondering if the 640 Pro can be converted to shoot 9x19mm?

I realize that since the Pro is already able to take 38/357 moon clips, does this impact the ability of a vendor such as TK Customs to modify the cylinder to also accept 9mm moon clips?

Another option is to have a dedicated cylinder, but I'd like to know if the factory cylinder may be modified for accepting 9mm.

I think the 640 Pro may be a good candidate for this and given that many have readily available 9mm rounds, that this could be a good option for some.

I would give TK a call and ask. They are good folks and easy to work with so why not get the answer from the horses mouth.

If you get an answer please post. Interesting question you ask.

Thanks and I've reached out to TK and will share what info I receive from them.

Of course it can be converted.

If you want to shoot 357 through it, I would recommend getting a second cylinder and leaving the factory original cylinder alone

Several of the gunsmiths that do these conversion tell their customers that 357 can still be fired in the converted cylinder. This is true, there will not be a catastrophic failure of the firearm doing this

However, I can tell you from personal experience that those 357 rounds are more prone to sticking and splitting. Plus if you are a hand loader, you will not like the bulged 357 brass

While I have not converted a 640, I have created dual cylinder convertibles along these lines for several of my N-frames.

I have had the one above for more than a decade now. I have the second cylinders chambered for 9x23 Winchester. This allows them to shoot all of the shorter cartridges as well

I just did this 627 V-comp last summer. I was thinking that it would make a good pin gun with the 9x23 Winchester ammunition

TK Customs did my 442 to shoot 9mm and I couldn't be happier. 38spl and 9mm no sticking. Expensive yes but to me worth it.

Thanks for the info everyone has shared.
I got confirmation that TK can machine the cylinder to accept 9mm.
If I proceed, I'll share how it goes.

Slabside2, I think your 442 is the first I've seen converted to 9mm, and it's good to know that the cylinder and frame can handle 9mm pressures.

I didn't know it either until some other members on the forum shared that information with me. So far so good it works out great. They do recommend not using +P ammo because they may stick in the cylinder.

Glad to hear they can work around the existing moon clip cuts.

I had them do a 360J and an older Model 60 cylinder that had no flutes (which I used in a .38 special 649) and both work well.

Put the original cylinder back in the 649 but here is the 360J.
