FWIW, I have a 642 and a 640 pro. I carry both depending on my mood.
I find they’re both great as a pocket gun. I always use a holster : either a Desamtis Nemesis or more recently, a Don Hume.
The 640 pro shoots and feels a lot more substantial. I love the sights and the ability to use 357 magnum rounds.
The 642 gets the nod in thinner pants, and in warmer weather when I’m wearing shorts.
Otherwise, in jeans and thicker khakis, the 640 pro is an easy pocket carry. I also like having 357 mag for hiking duty.
Great gun. There’s several other cool guns that can play the same role, but I really like the Centennial feel and form. Going between the 642 and the 640 pro is easy, same ergonomics, same holsters, same speed loaders.
A good friend once told me some great advice: Get the Gun you want.
It’s always going to be the one you want regardless of how you convince yourself that another one is superior because of some features or whatnot.
It’s true for me at least. I know what gun I really want. It’s up to me to allow myself to go get it.
