New here. Need some help ? Do I trade a 640 38 spl centennial for a 4586t 45. both mint, Any help?

Both would cost about same if purchased used at a LGS. I own both. I would say you really have to decide if you want a pocket carry .38 Spl or a full size DAO .45. Very different guns for different purposes. That's the question I think that matters.

I would keep the 640. It's very uncommon in the 38. It's a great shooter.

I don't care for the trigger of the 4586. I wouldn't care for the design except if you're a Miami Vice fan.

Always found/find my 640 no dash a bit heavy for pocket carry vs. my 317PD but a dream to shoot with .38s and +Ps.

Thanks for the reply's . I think I will keep the 640 ? Have had it way too long. Never a problem carrying it in the pocket. Uncle Mikes #4 pocket holster.

I traded away a 640 no dash and have regretted it everyday since. IMHO the 4546 makes a great boat anchor but not S&W best effort in a handgun.

I sold my Mdl 640 to a friend who buys/sells/trades a lot, and has interests similar to mine in handguns -- and then, after a couple of months, I asked him if it was okay to buy it back! It is too sweet to part with permanently.

Mine has been moon-clipped by TK and has a XS white dot front sight. It is, as noted by Bam-Bam, a dream to shoot with +P .38s (not so friendly with .357 Magnums). The trigger has broken in nicely and I don't think I will trade it away or sell it again.

All this is argumentation for you to keep your 640!

I can't think of many semi autos i would give up one of my revolvers for. ANd no offense, but none of those semi autos would be a S&W

Keep the Model 640. Especially if it is a no-dash .38 version. I think it was one of the best guns S&W ever made after about 1980.

I'll take a differing side, and say the 4586 is an excellent pistol, and I'm pretty sure you'll not see anymore of them. ;-)

I have two 640-1's (no 640, and I have to admit I find it hard to trade any gun, let alone a no dash 640), so it's hard for me to talk about trades.

But, let there be NO mistake, if I could get that 4586 for any reasonable price, it WOULD be mine.

I wouldn't but every time I traded a gun after a month or so I was regretting it to where now I don't trade anything!
