New 642 owner. I'm a noobie to revolvers. I noticed that a scratching or groove in the cylinder is being made by the detent device I circled in the pic below. Is this normal or can it be made so it doesn't mark up the cylinder? You'll see that the "tit" sticks up right above the trigger and seems to be what locks the cylinder in place as it turns. Thanks for the help. This forum is great.

The circled part that sticks up out of the small frame window is part of the 'cylinder stop', and is called the 'ball'. The name of the cylinder stop describes its function.

The ring on the cylinder is commonly called a 'stop track', and it's a normal event.

The timing of the cylinder stop's function is critical to the normal functioning of the revolver. Don't try to alter or modify it.

Thanks for the quick responce, Fastbolt. It just seems a shame to go marking up the cylinder like that. I'll learn to live with it I guess. The gun ain't gonna be a beauty for long, since it will be my daily CC gun and will show wear.
