I recently purchased one of the new 642 no lock firearms, and also have received my Carry Permit. I'm looking for the best SD round to use in this firearm. Please let me know what those of you who carry a 642 use and why.

I use the following depending on what I have available:

CorBon DPX 110gr JHP+P
CorBon 110gr JHP+P
Winchester "White Box" 125gr JHP+P

Hi, Try Gold Dot they make a round specifically designed for short barrel guns.
I use Gold Dot 135 gr. JHP.38+P Short Barrel{SB}
in my 642-1

I prefer either (1) Speer Gold Dot short barrel 135 grain GDHP or (2) Winchester's so-called FBI load, the 158 grain Lead Semi Wadcuter Hollowpoint (LSWCHP) +P, in no particular order.

I like the Cor Bon DPX, it doesn't slap your hand too hard like the Gold Dot SB does, and it still performs very well. I highly recommend it.

The Speer "short barrel" load shoots very close to POA in my 642-2. Remington's "FBI" load isn't far off, either.

I use Winchester Personal Protection
(White Box) 125 gr. .38 spl. JHP +P in all my .38 cal. revolvers. It's available at WALMART at about $15/box.

In tests, it performed as good as some high performance PD rounds, and is considerably cheaper, and easy to get.

I know the guys over on Evan Marshall's website were very impressed with the Winchester White Box 125gr JHP+P load after testing it.

I carry Remington Golden Saber 125gr JHP +P in my 642.

However, I'm going to try some Corbon DPX before too long... I've heard good things about that load.

Winchester's LSWCHP +P is what I carry in mine.
