I've got a J-frame "Gunsmoke" but need to pick up another 642.

I've got a few good used options in my area, including a Performance Center, a "standard" 642, and a 342 Ti. They are each in excellent condition.

New options include the 642 Pro and a handful of other options.

On one hand, the 342 Ti is interesting because it's somewhat rare to find. But ultimately, I want the 642 as a back up and sometimes primary carry when I'm carrying light.

My questions start with those who have experience with the 342 Ti. My past experience with Scandium and Titanium was a bruising .357. But as the 642/342 will be carried more than shot, I'm curious as to others' experience with it in comparison to the other models.

The used ones I'm looking at all have good to very good triggers, and tight cylinders. The new Pro was a very nice trigger as expected, and the PC is of course the PC.

I welcome all opinions. Thanks in advance.

I don’t have a 342 but I do have a 340PD and I only carry .38 Specials in it. It’s all about bullet placement anyway.

I have a PC 642, 340pd, gave my son in law a 642 cut for moonclips. Of the three I much prefer the 340pd just based on the longer extractor rod in the 357 version.

I don't own a titanium frame model, so I put that out there first.

I have shot them though. I couldn't tell the difference between the titanium & alloy frame recoil, truth be told.

I vote for getting the one you want or suits your needs best. As with all J-frames, there'll be more to come................ :D
