642 sear spring

Hi, I was installing a new set of hammer and trigger rebound springs today when I lost the sear spring. I apparently lost it when removing the hammer. I didn't even realize it at the time, I only discovered it after reassembling the gun and it wouldn't work. It looks like there may have been a pin or something that held the spring in place. Is there another piece I need to replace?

I feel dumb for losing that. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Does you sear look like this?

If so the spring is held in by tension and a small captive hole. It's easy to booger up and lose. All you need a the spring and you might want to order extras.

That's it. I thought maybe a pin or something might have held it in place. I think I will order a spare. Thanks for help.

There's one of those springs somewhere behind where I sit and work on my guns. It went right over my shoulder. I heard it land in a pile of open boxes full of old office junk.

S&W sent me a new one for free.

Same thing happened to me except with the mainspring pivot.
It slipped between my fingers, flew into the den and got lost in a pile of boxes.
I called S&W and they sent me one for free

Yep, removing and then reinstalling the little mousetrap spring in the MIM hammers is a bit more difficult than installing the cylinder stop spring. I use one of my thin cup-end pin punches to carefully adjust and position the spring into its proper position under the hammer sear. Slowly. Carefully. Sneaking up on it.

Eye protection is a good idea ... and maybe doing the work inside a large clear plastic bag, or with a shop towel draped around as much of the gun as is possible (for you to still see what you;re doing ) may be handy, too.

Kind of like how the small and lightweight lever springs in the 3rd gen guns (underneath the levers on each side of the hammer) have been called Jesus springs (in my first armorer class, at any rate) .... as the name, followed by obvious exclamation marks, is often invoked when they levitate and go AWAY ...
