642 variations?

Have been searching for a Smith 642 with a 2.5 inch barrel. I believe they were made, 638 also, with them in the mid 90's? Heard they were great shooters.

Anyone have any information on them? When, how many, any collectors value?

I believe you are thinking of the 640 pro

I do not believe the 642 ever had a 2 1/2" barrel.
There were 3" barreled Centennials with steel frames

I even think I recall a roll mark that said Air Weight on a steel framed Centennial

They tend to be hard to find and don't come available very often.

They came standard with Crimson Trace grips and you are correct there was a 642, 638 and I think a 637.

All had the IL.

Any idea how many were made? No idea why they didn't catch on. Longer sight radius, full length ejector rod. Still lightweight.
How do they balance?
