642 vs 340 pd vs Ruger LCR

I know and I watched the video. I'm just a little nervous about trying something like that and screwing it up.

You're right. I had an older model all steel that was too heavy to carry and sat in my nightstand in case someone broke in. This one would be carried frequently and that's why I got the LCR. Well, I guess I learned a hard lesson,I won't buy another gun that I can't try first.

There are many threads on this Forum that describe ways to remove or disable the lock. Some methods are reversible, some aren't.

I've put full power .357 magnum through my 340Sc for years and have never had a problem with the lock, but I still don't like the lock.

Your OP said you want the gun for a running companion. IMHO you want the lightest gun possible. It's not a range gun or plinker. It's a "carry a lot, shoot a little" but you always have it gun. It won't leave you unarmed because you didn't want to bother carrying something heavier (been there, done that).

I've got several S&Ws with the hated lock. Not trying to re-stir the old pot of controversy here, I know that there's been a lot of heated discussion about it, but I've put multiple thousands of rounds through these guns which include a couple of 500s, and a 340PD, not to mention several less heavy recoiling revolvers, with nary a glitch. I carry the PD, lock and all, and have complete confidence in it.
