Hey guys, long time no post. My fault, I have been distracted by other shiny bobbles besides S&W handguns. Anyhoo, I recently got a good deal on a group lot of S&Ws locally (645,3914,659,6906) and all came with extra mags.

One of the “645” magazines has the “must have yellow follower” language on it but has a black follower. Is this really a problem? Is it gonna blow up, fly out of the gun, and generally cause mayhem at the range? Are yellow followers available separately?

The black follower is the current version, and the only ones currently available unless you buy used ones from Numrich.

But there's no reason to do that, the black followers work just fine... maybe better, but I've never had any issues with the old ones, so there is nothing for me to make a comparison on which is better.

Gunhacker did a good job explaining.

I replaced my original yellow followers with the “newer“ black ones when I put new springs in. Everything was working great before the changes but I just wanted things fresh again in these magazines. They still work great. ;)

I imagine that is the case with the one you have.

Why change the followers. Where worn or broken.

What benefit is there to making such a change?

No “benefit” but no consequence either. S&W considered them as improved and they were only @ $4.00. I was putting fresh factory springs in so I decided to replace the yellow followers too.

I actually kept one yellow follower magazine original for the history aspect. :D
