I AM A NEW MEMBER AND I AM LOOKING FOR A MODEL 648, I JUST GOT BACK FROM LARAMIE WYOMING FROM A PRARIE DOG HUNT. I USED A MODEL 651 IN 4 INCH AND MANAGED SEVERAL HITS OUT TO 70 YARDS. I DID USE A COUPLE OF RIFLES ON THE LONGER SHOTS. I WOULD LIKE TO GET A LONGER BARREL 22 MAG--MODEL 648 COMES TO MIND. I WOULD LIKE SMITH TO MAKE A 651 5 INCH 7 SHOT WITH A HALF LENGTH LUG BARREL, LIKE THE CURRENT MODEL 63 5 INCH OR MODEL 60 5 INCH. I HAVE ONE OF THE FIRST MODEL 617 6 INCH WITH NO UNDERLUG BARREL, LOOKS JUST LIKE ORIGINAL MODEL 17, SHOOTS GREAT. HOPE TO CONVERSE WITH REAL SMITH HEADS.

I don't think I qualify for a Smith head but may I fill in for a moment?

First off, a BIG welcome to the forum!!!!

I bought a 48-4 a few years ago ..... perfect and a 6 inch. BIG BUCKS!

I too would have liked a 648 ..... I wanted the gun for dragging around the ranch .......

My 48 is more of a safe queen ...... sadly!

Three 44s

I had a 648 6 inch and traded it to a friend years ago. I have asked a thousand times if he would trade back. Answer is strong no. The amazing thing is it is still unfired. I think I will call him today and see if he has weakend any.

Welcome to the forum. I have a 648 6 inch Bbl. extrememly accurate, one gun I wouldnt get rid of. If you get one I believe you'd be well pleased, even though the ammo is a bit expensive.

Welcome to the forum.
I wanted a 648 for a long time. Could not find one. I was at a gun show a couple of years ago, and there was a guy carrying one around.
I ended up with it and could not be happier.
It shoots very well and is just great.

617

Do you want to sell the 617 6" with no underlug? If so please PM me...Thanks

I AM GOING TO KEEP THIS 617--I HEAR THEY DIDN'T MAKE TOO MANY LIKE THIS. IF I COULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO SEND SOME PICTURES IWILL DO THAT.

GEORGE

Good luck in your hunt for the 648. Last one I saw was a used lock gun and the dealer had it priced at $750. Now I didn't think it'd sell but it sure did. Along with the 617(which thankfully is still in production) the 648 has got to be one of the hardest used S&W's to find.
