I am the original owner of a 659. The box states 6590. Features are listed as SPECIAL. But, it has the configuration of a 5906. Serial number TBV2XXX.

Is this a transitional gun? I have everything that came with the gun when it was new, box, paperwork, wrapper paper. How scare is this?

thanks

These are definitely scarce. You may next ask about price. I cannot answer that except to say that if it is high condition -AND- you have the original box with intact end label, were it mine I would 100% not shoot this pistol.

There's a gujillion 659/5906's out in the world in varying conditions but these transitional guns are very scarce.

To the small group of folks who chase these, this one is valuable.

Sevens, thank you for the information. Its one of my favorites. Its been fired but not much. And always with quality ammo. I have the original box (and label) and paperwork. I haven't looked in that box in 30 years. I think its the first gun I bought. If its that scare I will probably leave it in the safe going forward. I've never sold a gun, but I also like to fire everything I own. So there's a dilemma.

I have a 6590 that I bought here years ago . It sat for a while , so finally I made an offer and he accepted . It was nib , even has the tool kit . I think there might be 2 mag's through it . Don't have the love for it like my PC guns , but it is scarce according to the bible .

Easy for me to say** but there would be zero dilemma for me. I would clean it, lube it and tuck it away.

There are so many 5906's out there, I would throw 4 or 5 bills at one if I were just dying to shoot it.

** easy for me because I have never found any use for an axiom such as "these were made to be shot" and there's some manner of emotion laced injustice if one owns a gun they specifically intend to not shoot. For the record, these were 100% positively NOT MADE to be shot. That's demonstrably false. These were absolutely made for one reason, to be sold for profit. This one has already lived out that dream, exactly as S&W hoped.

** also easy for me to say as I have a 659, a pair of 5906's, a 915, 639, 469, 59, three 39's, and others I don't need to add. So owning and specifically not shooting a 6590 would be zero difficulty level for me.

All that said? I have never had any issue with folks doing whatever they wish with their stuff. If you own it, enjoy it however you will, even if that's following some silly idea that "it must be shot!" 🤣

Well, I love to shoot it and it loves to be shot. So I guess that solves the dilemma. 😁
