I have a 659 "A" prefix early S&W Auto with the round trigger guard and ADJ. sights w/lanyard, no box! It is not a surplus gun I dont believe as the condition is VG. Not shot very much either I dont think. What kinda money is it worth? Thanks in advance

Pics always help. When I am trying to determine the street value of a gun the first place I check is completed items section on Gunbroker. It's not a sure thing but gives you a pretty good idea. I just ran that search and was surprised to see how many 659's did not make their reserve or never even got a bid. It seems most sellers value their adjustable sight 659's at right around $375-425. Higher for excellent to mint condition.

Hi,

I found one at a Pawn Shop in California for $450. I would of bought the gun but they are not legal for sale in California except for private party transfers. I bought a nice 5903 which is legal in California.

Regards.

I used to own one of these, back in the late '80s. Sold it in early '90s in order to buy my 3913. It was nice looking, all stainless, but had a few quirks. The adjustable sights would come out of alignment often, and the ambi decocking lever would work itself loose after 50 -100 rds or so.

Probably the hardest gun I've ever tried to sell. Ended up trading it for a 642. Just wasn't a lot of demand.

659, A hard sell?

I agree with anyone trying to sell a 659. I don't know why but would like to know WHY they are so hard to sell. I have tried to sell one for over three years without a single contact. I had it priced at $350.00, perfect condition, fired less than 60 rounds and yet not a single bite. WHY?...
I finally sold the top half and am now left with the frame.

Thank heavens I would never sell mine. It's a big chunk ofa gjun but I love it. Mine has the square trigger guard and the adjustable sights which makes the front sight blade very distinct. It's got a great trigger. I considered myself lucky to have found one in nearly 100% condition. It came with Pachmayrs on it that made the grip way too thick, but I found some Uncle Mikes grips that are perfect. I paid right at $300 for it, maybe a bit below that. I think that it's one of those 2nd Gen guns that doesn't get the respect that it deserves. Many folks have caught on to 3rd Gen guns, but the 2nd Gen is still underrated. I wouldn't part with my 469, 669, 645, 659, or 745.
