Just looking for info on my dad"s model 659
ser # TABxxxx
looks like its in very good shape
I am a retired Marine
have several guns, P89. Springfield XD9, CZ 75 PCR
this 659 is a nice pistol and have not shot it yet, only thing I would like to do is make the front sight easier to see, its a fixed post
can anyone tell me what year it was made?

In the neighborhood of 1984. In Mar of 84 S&W began three letter prefixes for all products including auto loaders. 1984 s/n listed in edition 3 of the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson were TAA1985 - TAD9549.

I hate three letter prefixes because they followed no rules.

Oops, welcome to the forum.

Put some whiteout on the front sight, might have to reapply occasionally, I was always shooting low and it helped me a lot.

Welcome from the Pine Barrens of Southern New Jersey.

Thank you for your service.

When I first got my 6906, the decocker was sporadic. It had some gunk build up, which I cleaned out, and it has worked ever since.

I hope it's as simple as that for you.

And, welcome.

Welcome from New Hampshire!
The 659 is a beautiful auto and great shooter. All steel construction
so you can shoot warmer NATO ammo, +p or anything im 9mm.
Another vote for white out or liquid paper. A little dab will do ya.
I have a 559 from 82.
Yours is post 83.
Others will chime in for sure.
Jim
