I have a 66-1 that was a police trade-in that looked about as rough as yours did. It was so bad that I did'nt think it would hurt to round butt the frame. To my surprise it cleaned up exceptionally well. Although I prefer a round butt frame I'm now wishing I had left it alone.

All kidding aside, it really did come out nicely, and just goes to show 'that you can't judge a book by its cover'.
