66-1 S/N 47K3282, 6" pinned barrel, 3 screw.
Appreciate any info for this gun, father in law is interested in its history. Thank you.

PROBABLY produced in 1978. The 6 inch barrel was available by special order earlier, but not many out there.

In any event, it wouldn't be later than 1979.

Enjoy, they are great guns.

Awesome thanks guys. Another question though, I couldn't find any pics or info but can the ejector star (?) be machined to acctpt moon clips? It looks like it was machined down to the same height as the recessed portions of the cylinder, compared to pics I've seen of normal recessed cylinders. I'll try to post a pic if needed.

While I'm no expert by far but what you are describing is a normal P & R cylinder

I still have my first duty weapon that my father bought for me in 1979 (because I wasn't 21 yet). It's a 4" 66-1 with serial# 43K4106 (less that 100 away from yours). I carried it for many years and it has a few "beauty marks" to show it.

It now sits in the safe and will never be sold. A couple of years ago I found the box, docs, & tools, at my parent's house. I was living there when I joined the local PD and just stuffed the box in a closet without much thought. I couldn't believe it was still there. It made for a very good day.

I still have the first "snubby" I ever bought. The first thing I did when I turned 21 (had a few $$ saved up) was go out and buy a 2.5" 66-1 (serial# 86K9xxx). That one sits in the safe next to the 4".

I guess I should start a thread with some pics. Sorry for the hijack.

The Model 66 is the stainless steel sibling of the blue Model 19. Lot's of people will say the K frame magnums, such as this, should not use hot 110 or 125 grain bullets in 357 mag, but that 158s are fine. Lot's of folks will also say these are among SW's finest. You and your FIL should enjoy the gun immensely.
