66-2, 3" barrel

I recently purchased this revolver, SN AHL 8849, can anyone provide any info on this gun as to value, year made etc. ?

We need pictures....for condition. The -2s were the first of about 5500 or so 3" 66s -2,-3 and -4s. Very popular these days ....... though you almost couldn't give them away in the 80s. I'd guess the top of the market is around the $1400-1500 range.... unless there's bidding and drinking going on!!!!

I bought a 3"66-3 in 1988/89 for $270 out the doors...... including having the action polished.

I bought one the same prefix as yours a few weeks ago at a LGS. I don't think they knew what they had (and they sell so many guns, I suspect this one snuck through). It was priced as a clean ANIB snubbie for $865 (it had tools, papers, and manual). It's a great gun and a great shooter. In the hand it feels a lot like my 3" 686 Plus.

I have found working the shows with a friend of mine in S.Fl.
these are the new hot item. And every where else. Mod-19s that are 2.5"
are not to be found. Prices quoted above are not out of the market. Best

I picked up a 66-2 at the March gun show. No box, or extras. It is a 2.5".
Was fired very little. Seller dropped the price from $795 to $725. Have not been to the range yet. Need to find appropriate stocks in wood. Congratulations on your 66! Bob

That's where the book is not correct.

All the ones I've seen and reported including my own 3" 66-2 has an AHLxxxx serial.

The 4th edition of the catalog makes no mention anywhere of AHL prefixes.

It's my understanding that AHL serial numbers are exclusive to Ashland.

Sorry for stating it wrong.

I didn't mean to imply that AHL were the only ones,only that the AHL is not mentioned and seem to be the one most members had posted.

Often, the SCSW authors rely on a single gun they may have encountered (perhaps in the auction business) and print that information, so they intend to report what they have observed and may not be all-inclusive.

The standard (previously known as) factory letter states the 3" 66-2s were made with AHL, AHJ and ANA prefixes. Please feel free now to donate the letter fee to the charity of your choice.

Here's my 3 inch 66-2 S/N AHJ 1XXX. As new with Box, Docs, and Tools. I'll admit it's a safe queen. I also have an NIB 66-2 2 1/2" that also sits in the safe - but I do have a 66 no dash 2 1/2" that I shoot the heck out of - I love that gun!

Well, I did a project today. Finally cleaned up my 66-2, and pulled the Hogue grip. The stocks are square butt from the Phillipines. I paid $5.00 for them at a small gun show. They feel pretty good, but are temporary. Ideally some round butt smooth bananas would be perfect. Bob
