I just located one at a local store. In about 90% with no box or papers for $425. Is this worth it? Its a nice gun, comes with Pachs.

It would be to me. Sadly, I paid a fair amount more than that three months ago for a 3" -3. As always, doesn't matter what I think, just how much you want it.....

Thats a great price on a very desireable sixgun. I'd grab it and run away snickering.......and buy a lottery ticket.

On the off chance you didn't like the 3" 66, you could double your money here in the classifieds. Good luck! Regards 18DAI.

At least $600 for ity out here in kali. The 3" guns are always more desirable and the 66 is my favorite SW. I'd love to have one. I think $425 is stealing it.

+1. Jump on it quick as it's one of the best 66's to ever come out of the factory IMO.

If you don't buy it please give me the name and phone # to the store. I'll take it off his hands!

Don't let it get away. One thing I've learned is, when you find one that you REALLY want, don't hesitate! I love my 2 1/2" and wish I had a 3".
BTW, sportsterguy, what kind of grips on yours? Mine needs a set of those right away.

Well...I went back today and looked it over really good. Whoever had it before really must have abused the little beauty. The dealer told me that the gun has been there a while and that several people have looked at it...and that made me worry.

So, I really gave it a good look and saw a lot of issues with it. Oh well...could have been a nice find.

Would a trip back to S&W resolve any or most of those issues?

I think knowing that, I'd offer $400 OTD and make an appointment with Drs. Smith and Wesson. These things can take a pretty decent beating and, after they're done with their beating, all of Smith's horses and all of Wesson's men can put 'em together again.

The crane appears to be sprung and there is substantial wear on the forcing cone as well as more flame cutting than is usual. The hammer can be pushed down when it is cocked with as little effort as it takes to cock it. I have never seen a Smith do that before and I have bought tons of used ones. Timing is horrendous. Screws are mangled and side plate has gaps. When I first saw it I was really excited, there were no scratches and the finish was nice, but after really giving it the once over the second time I looked at it my heart just sank. Like I said in an earlier post, the dealer had told me that a lot of folks had looked at the gun, but nobody bought it. I myself was thinking of getting it anyway and turning it into a project gun, but I decided to buy a ANIB model 625-2 instead that he had there and was perfect with box an papers for $550! So...the day didnt turn out too bad.

They are Ahrends Boot Grips. Minimal in their length but still good enough of a grip to handle my Speer GD 158 gr. rounds. They are outstanding for concealment. PM me and I'll give you a great supplier that will save you $20.00 off their $60.00 price. Even at retail they are great grips for a CCW and I would not hesitate to pay the money as they're worth every penny. Very high quality and nice grain patterns.

Had a set of Spegals on it that I paid big money for. They were checkered and looked cool, but actually tore my hand up enough to draw blood after 2 cylinders of magnums. I practice with the real thing as the recoil is a bit sharper. The Ahrends are good for 50 rounds and so am I.
