i just read a long thread on the 45ACP revolvers....after reading that it has peaked my interest....pros and cons of one of those for my situation? i am not worried about the wife shooting it..she shot full house 357's

ok after doing some more research, talking to my wife, and reading articles.....i think i am going to go with a 64 or 67 from J&G for the house gun. She likes 38's, likes revolvers, and i like the DAO for her...less confusion on what to do and she has to practice how she will use it. My questions now are....
1. should i try for a pinned barrel? one of the 67's i believe said limited amount of pinned barrels..call for avail.

2. 67 with adj sights or 64 with fixed sights?

3. square butt or round butt? whats the advantages/disadvantages?

4. and these don;t say +p on the side...are they ok for +p ammo or no? i want her to practice with what will be loaded in it....so if we will use +p she will practice with it...but i don;t want to jeapordize our safety by continually using +p ammo.

J&G 64s

I bought two Model 64s from J&G, and am very pleased with the quality. Spend the few xtra bucks and get the better condition ones. They polish up nicely with Mothers Mag Polish. I also have a 3" 64 that was a NY1...NYCPD turn in. In my book, any K frame S&W is perfect for most jobs. Sights??? For a house or carry gun, fixed works well and doesn't hang up on clothing. Having said that, how do I join the posse to catch those dirty dawgs that are acting like Jesse James out your way? Seems like a job for "The Boys". Seriously, sorry for your devastating loss. You might consider a house-sitter next time you leave or an alarm system. Don't forget to Vote the B******s Out at every election!

I have a M65-5 (3" round butt) which is my "nightstand gun". I use the Federal 158gr SWHP +P loads. K-frames can handle .357 magnums, so 38 +Ps won't be a problem. The only advantage to the M66 is, of course, the adj sight. It is true that adj sights get caught up in stuff easier, and they can get bumped out of alignment. But, I think the adj sights on my M19 (red ramp/white outline) are much easier pick up on target. The M64 and M65's are just a matte stainless on matte stainless sight picture. Round butts are easier to carry concealed, square butts are more of a target grip. Either way, a K-frame loaded with a quality 38 round is a great choice for home defense. You may want to look into the Winchester PDX-1 38 special load. I have tested the same round in 40 S&W and they appear to be, well, lethal to say the least.

My 4 inch 66 retired as my service weapon about 5 years ago. It now serves as my wife's house gun and is loaded with WW 158 SWCHP. We'll never sell it, and would be interested in picking up another k-frame at some point.

I am still interested in a 66...and will keep my eyes open to find one someday for the right price....but i am leaning towards a 64 or 67 from J&G right now....

i am pretty much sold on the 67 but can someone help me, are these square or round butt? and how do i tell when a revolver is "pinned"? Please forgive me I am kinda new to S&W revolvers. Is there a sight I can go to that would list revolvers by frame letter or model number and give the specs on it, like a reference table to help newbies like me get the numbers sorted out?

also since they are DAO, the 64's are bobbed, but the 67's still have the spur...what would happen if you tried to cock it like a SA? it wouldn;t catch? and if it didn;t catch if you let it go would it fire? or would the trigger have to be pulled also? once again, thanks for the help guys it is really appreciated!
