My local gun store has a 669 that wont drop the hammer when the decocker is pressed. I was wondering if any have any experience with what might be wrong. They might give it up for a lower price and I would purchase it if low enough. thanks.

There are some other possibilities, but I would suspect the sear release lever as the cause. The lever may be missing, worn or improperly fitted (late) to the extent that it will no longer operate properly. If this is the case, it would be a simple matter of fitting/installing new lever to restore proper function.
