67-1 Landed!

Brought home this pretty clean 67-1 last week, and it turns out to be one of those that does justice to the Gunbroker photos. Very lightly used, well-maintained and tight, to say the least.
The stock grips were just too small for my big mitts, so I put ona set of Hogues, which will do well enough for now.
Seems like the previous owner did mostly SA shooting, as the DA pull, while smooth enough, is sure HEAVY.
Have a mainspring/rebound spring kit inbound to try to lighten things up.
Everything I've read (here and elsewhere) about this model seems true: great balance, very accurate, no recoil to speak of, and just a very good looker, IMHO.

I think the earlier Model 67s are probably the best utility .38 Special revolvers ever made by S&W.

I obtained this 67-1 from the estate of a deceased 100-year-old neighbor recently. He bought it and a box of ammo many years ago for home protection, but I don't think he ever shot it - it appears unfired. All it needed was a little lube inside the very dry interior to smooth it up.

Unfortunately, the previous owner did not keep the box - just the gun, the SAT and the cleaning rod. I did find a 67-1 factory box to complete the set, although the serial number doesn't match.

I have not shot it - I have other guns to shoot. I'm keeping it in memory of my former neighbor just as it is.

Early 67's were always a favorite of mine. I always looked at them as the quintessential revolver of their era. Everything you needed in a 38 special revolver, nothing you didn't.

Not to be a total Philistine, but I think I would have to regard that Mod 67 as having been preserved by my neighbor for me to shoot!. No way i'd let one of the all time great utility guns languish in my safe. A couple of years ago I bought a Model 60-4 from the son of one of my very best friends. It was about 20 years old but he didn't need or even test fire it as it was apparently NIB, but I took care of that almost immediately and it has been one of my favorites ever since. I guess collectors of the future will anguish over each little scratch and rub we put on our guns now, but that will just give them something to complain about! I'm enjoying mine now!

Swapped in the Wilson Combat mainspring and rebound spring today, and what a difference!

Can't wait to get to the range and see how it shoots, but WOW, it's like night and day and SOOOoooo smooth!

I have a white sighted M67 bought new that after several rounds had a "fly forward" trigger on the return. Fault was galling on stainless steel hammer and trigger..
The factory replaced with hard chrome parts and all fine now. It is super accurate and I have loved it for years.
