When was the 681 first produced?

SCSW lists it being introduced in 1980, at S/N AAB9387, but mentions that examples have been found with S/N AAA--- range. Was mfg. until 1992. There were several "special" runs over the years. There were special runs made for distributors in 96, and both 3" and 4" in 2001.
