I went into my preferred LGS to make a layaway payment. This was sitting in the used case for $599. I couldn't buy it fast enough. Funny thing, 3 years ago the same store had a 2.5 686 for the same money. I passed. I kicked myself in the *** repeatedly ever since. Wasn't making that mistake twice. Can't wait to try it this weekend.

Good find. I did the same thing. Went into a Pawn Shop and there set a 686-1 4". I couldn't pass it up.

Wonder why a snub 686 is so desirable. The frame is really too big for consistent concealed carry and it's relatively heavy. But I wouldn't pass it up either. A boxed gun like that is essentially brand new. Can't let anyone else have it, can we?

I think the 686-1 came in a cardboard box? Does that plastic case number to the gun. All of mine are in cardboard with exception of a few -4 2.5's.

They're so ugly they're beautiful, silly boy lol.

I have a 686-4 snub and love it. Yea it is heavy but in a sourdough holster it carries well. Enjoy!

The blue box has a sticker that has the serial # matching the revolver. It wouldn't have mattered if it had no box and a moldy gunsock. I am so very satisfied with the purchase. Finding one of my Grail guns exactly as I want it, and also when I actually have the money is a rare thing. I put 24 Blazer Brass 357s thru it today and they were balls on at 30 yards.

You should be. Great Gun. I collect the 686 guns extensively and havent seen a 686-1 in a hard case that Serialized. Just trying to put 2 in 2 together. That's all. You know Smith and Wesson. Never say never.

Great find, and a nice price too; congrats! You are really lucky to get redemption by finding the same gun that you missed out on previously. I really hate those kick yourself in the *** times when I've passed on a gun I really wanted, and then regretted the decision. I have never had the chance to find another one just like it later on, never mind for the same price! Count your blessings, and enjoy!

Ironically, I avoided a 'kick myself in the butt moment' today at my LGS, when I found a very nice 586 in excellent shape, combat stocks, and box/docs. I'd been looking for a good one for a while, so I grabbed it! No heartburn for me tonight!

I don't think it's necessarily the 'snub' part. The most popular combo I see people rave about is 3"-4" barrel.

I shot it again yesterday after an IPSC match. It was right on at 15 yards with full house 125 grain JHPs at 1400 fps! And they were manageable! I will likely carry this everyday sometimes.
