Hey guys, i recently bought a used 686-1 (M) revolver and today i noticed something strange.

Sometimes when i drop the hammer using my thumb, the hammer catches on some sort of "half-cock" and stays there until i either pull the trigger or return it to "cocked"

I was wondering if this is something that the revolver is intended to do, or is it something i should avoid doing. Also when i pull the trigger from this hammer condition, it sounds and feels kinda "off" or weird.

Sorry for the newbiness but im just starting out or revolvers ;)

JAVO,

If it were mine, I would start by giving it a detailed strip cleaning. But, something to try first: Remove the wood stocks. Towards the bottom of the grip frame is a screw. It is called the strain screw and you'll see it tightens into the mainspring. See if you can tighten this screw. If so, bottom it out just snug. If it was loose, after tightening it up, this should fix the problem.

Hope this helps
chris
