I recently aquired a beautiful 686-1 with 4 position silhouette sight. It has a hair trigger You can actually push the hammer forward and it will fall in single action, is this normal and Any other information on these guns would be appreciated.

I don't think that is normal. It is usually referred to as push off. Now depending on how much pressure you use you can get just about any revolver to push off, but it takes a lot of force. If you are able to get the hammer to drop with a small amount of pressure, you should have it checked out by a competent gunsmith. It could mean that someone has been inside the gun and done to much polishing. It could be dangerous.

They are great guns and they shoot great. I think the there was a recall on them many moons ago. I think it was no dash and some -1's. Look at the yoke crane and see if there is an M stamp. That would indicate the gun was returned to the factory for the mod. Your gun appears to have the 4 position adjustable front sight which will bring a premium. Production began in 1980. The -1 indicates the first engineering change, I am not sure what it was. I would think your gun would have shipped with a TT, TH and the Goncalo Ives target stock.

Hope this helps - you will love the gun. I would look closely at the screws to see if they have any damage by an amateur gunsmith. Check the forcing cone and top strap for potential flame cutting as well. This is caused by someone shooting a steady diet of low bullet weight hot 357 ammo. The ammo allows plasma gases to escape around the small bullet causing cutting of the top strap immediately behind the forcing cone. Pull the stocks off as well and ensure there is no rust on the frame.

Nice gun but someone pushed a trigger job beyond scary. Find a good gunsmith as stated above to get it back to stock.
