Hi, I know blasphemy right? Newly acquired I was thinking over replacing the wood grips with VZ's. Anyone else tried this? Pictures appreciated.

Thanks!

I like wood but I am more of a g10 guy. I really like the feel of them not smooth but not rough either.

I like the hogues too but they are limited on the larger frames. here is hogue's red lava on my 360

I like the look of those. How do they feel compared to the VZ grips?

I think they feel a little better than the vz's. the finger grooves are more rounded off, doesn't feel as sharp as the vz's. texture wise they are about the same.

Tried them and didn't like them

Put them on a K frame RB and found the fit at best marginal. Frame proud to the grips on the backstrap. Yuk.

Yep, me and a buddy had the same experience with poor fit, but that can happen with any manufacture. Funny how dimensions can vary so much between like frames.

Love the VZ scales on my 1911 and was thinking of VZ grips on my 649.
But then I did a Google search and decided not to.

That's the point. According to Craig Spegel, S&W is extraordinarily consistent in its K/L frame size. Not so much with the N frame over the years until they went RB. Every pair of Spegels I've gotten for a K/L gun has had a PERFECT fit. IMO VZ is just not that focused on getting it right. It's "good enough" for most folks.

I have 2 686's a 2.5 and a 6". every grip I have tried on the 6"(3 different hogue models rubber, wood and the vz's), the rear strap sit proud but only on one side and not just by a little bit the only grips that fit it are the stock ones that cover the whole frame up. I may be the odd one out but both pistols are fairly close in manufacture date. Both are newer ones with the lock.

I have the vz's on my 325pd 4" & the frame is a tad proud of the grip but still gives me a comfortable grip. All of the Ahrends Grips I have fit correctly.

I won't be the one name calling. Love the way a nice set of wood grips look but each and every snub K I've ever owned for carry has worn Compact Professionals.

I've had VZ's on several 1911's and Sigs, and loved them. I wouldn't even THINK about putting G10 grips on a revolver ... wood or rubber, only. Anything else is heresy.
