686-3 4" Stainless Born on Date?

If your friend has the Standard Catalog of S & W, you probably noticed this letter prefix wasn't mentioned. Also, as typical for S & W, the ones listed nearby were not in alphabetical order by date - BHJ was July 1991 and BFV September 1992. Yours probably falls somewhere in there.

Yes we looked in the standard catalog but didnt find anything. There was a mention of that prefix but it was on a US park police model 10 and they only made 30 with 4 being BJA prefix.

I am having the same problems trying to find the history of a 629-3 classic with 6" barrel that I just bought. Trying to find out the history without paying S&W $50.00 to do it for me. any other suggestions on where to look. I have the smith and Wesson 3rd edition catalog on order.
