686+ (3" vs 2.5")

I also like the pc 686. Id like to find the grips for mine.

Not quite clear what your post means, but if you are looking for the grips from the 686PC, they are made by Altamont. Though not pictured on their website, if you call them you can order them.

Harrish, I like the grips on the pc 686. Havent seen them for sale anywhere. I bought some of Altamonts boot grips, but had I known I could get that style I wouldve bought them instead.

I have a brand new 686+ 3" I bought last spring for $750, love it! Like the extra sight radius and longer ejector rod. Got a set of wood grips on it now and a MTR Custom Leather Sentinel holster for it; carries very easily all day long!

Just got off the phone with Milt Sparks. Ordered a PMK for the 686. 8-10 weeks from now it'll be here :) Should be a fun surprise when it arrives as I'm sure I'll forget about it by then.

Now to decide which boot grips I want for this bugger ;)

The OP's gun has Uncle Mike's combats, so you know it's at least 10 years old, give or take. Since UM's aren't made anymore, I've noticed the price of used ones in good condition creeping up into the $40-$50 range.

NO ****! haha, thanks for that info.

I didnt ask the seller which "dash" number it was, figured a deal is a deal and I'd look into the details when it got to my FFL.

I sure wish paypal worked for firearms purchases, sending a USPS Money Order is such a PITA

I'd guess it's a -6. It's possible those UM are not factory, but they were real common back in the day. S&W used a lot of UM grips from the late '80's to about 2006. They were VERY common on K & J-frames in the late '90's. L-frames, like your's, typically wore Hogues, but anything is possible. S&W used both suppliers simultaneously.

Go with these from Altamont. They came standard on my 586PC L Comp. Comes in a few colors. Sorry the angle of a couple of the pics does not do the grips justice. And the lighting does not do the rosewood color justice either. Google Images "Smith Wesson 586 L Comp" and see much better pics of the grips.

Altamont K/L Frame Grips. Bottom Row:
Altamont Company - Smith & Wesson
(They make lots of grips that are not pictured on their website, most wood grips on current S&Ws are Altamont. Just call them and tell them which model S&W they are on and they will sell them to you. But these are on their site).

Hmm, I have 2 sets of those for K/L Frame. Maybe it is time to sell them. I don't use rubber grips on my carry guns, and I only buy revolvers I carry.

If you want to trade, I've got a set of checkered Altamont k/l boot grips with medallion that came with a gun I bought that I'd trade for the Uncle Mikes k/l combats. I only use Uncle Mikes on my carry revolvers. Or Harrish if the OP doesn't want them.

B_san, pm inbound!

Funny enough, i handled a 586 L-Comp at my FFL and loved the grips! I cant imagine having rubber grips under a cover garment

I still carry my 581 in a Bianchi Black Widow OWB, barrel sticks out below about 1.5". May look for a 686, 2.5" someday, but that 581 sure is sexy and sees a lot of range time as well. Fitted with a Tyler T grip, it's perfection, s'cuse me Mr. Glock! Go eat worms

Certainly let the OP have the first shot. If he passes, PM me and I will dig up the UM grips I have in the old grip draw :)

B_san, I look forward to receiving the grips!

Now I need some 5 Star Speedloaders and other goodies from their catalog :-)
