A friend of mine who is a gunsmith just took in on trade a 686-3 with 8 3/8" barrel with factory dovetails in the barrel for scope rings. I have not seen this revolver yet and I would like to make him an offer once I see it in person, but I'm coming up short on info. All I can come up with is that is was made in the 80's and only about 1100 were made.

If someone were to have a pic or any info on rarity or value, it would be much appreciated.

thanks,

BM

Sounds like a product code 104251. The rings are proprietary and no longer sold by S&W. Get the rings because they can be hard to find otherwise. Without the rings I'd expect it to sell for what a normal 8 3/8-inch M686 would sell for. Maybe a little less. With the rings, maybe a $50 to $100 premium at most. It's a cool gun (I have the blue M586-3 version), but they are not super rare or highly sought after.
