I was lucky enough to find a 686-4 snubby for a good price. I bought this gun for a carry gun and have a few ideas I would like to do to it before carrying it. The cylinder has already been sent off to Pinnacle to get dished out for moon clips. I am contemplating buying the fixed rear sight from Cylinder and slide, has anyone had any good or bad experiences with these? The only thing I'm not crazy about is the price, its around 90 bucks and to me that seems really high for something of that nature. I also would like to get rid of the red ramp and have it dovetail cut and put a night sight in it....does anyone know what height I'll need to buy a night sight in? not all dovetail sights are cut the same, any suggestions as to which ones are better? Last I am going to get the gun bead blasted to a nice matte finish.....unfortunately I'll have more money in gunsmithing than I have in the gun by the time its all over but this is going to be something I carry quite a bit so it doesn't bother me too much. Any suggestions of pictures of similar ones would be appreciated! Thanks!

I would use the money from the gunsmithing projects and buy ammo instead(or components if you reload). Skill is more important than gadgets and if you ever sell the gun you'll eat the cost of what you've done to it. A good holster will also be necessary and while they don't cost a fortune, they aren't cheap either.

The Smith target sights are pretty rugged, no need to invest in another sight. If you do damage one, you can replace the blade for just a few bucks, or the whole sight for a lot less that $90. For close combat work, no need to change the front sight either. Just shoot it a lot and you will be surprised how fast you can keep the bullets in the body at 7 yards.

I wouldn't "satin finish" the gun either. The stock shiney finish stays nice better/easier. Put grips on that point well for you and shoot it. Spend the extra money practicing.

I agree I have gotten some good advice, I'll admit, I usually do get carried away with gun projects. I think the front sight is extremely rugged, however I just hate the red plastic inserted in the blade....to me it looks cheap and cheesy. Anyone have any good solutions to this problem?
