LGS has a mint 686-4 6" with a standard hammer but a wide serrated target trigger . Does that sound legit ? I always thought that the target trigger and hammer were paired together. Anyway it's $709.99 and no push off or end shake and the barrel is on straight . Timing was perfect.

It's legit. They do not have to be paired together. You could order either or both. When they came on a model as standard equipment like the .44 Magnum/Model 29 they came with both. Or order them individually. Or have one or both installed after market. The optional target triggers and hammers have not been available for decades.

It is very possible someone had the Target Trigger installed.

Not a hard thing to do for any competent revolver smith.

Hopefully when the trigger was installed they did trigger job too.

Anyways, snag the 686.

Don't ask, don't question, just do it.

Yes, we are enablers here.

No 686 came from Springfield with a wide, serrated, target trigger…or any kind of target trigger as far as I know. It can, however, be easily added.

I've added target triggers and hammers to several of my 686s. Color casehardened parts were fairly readily available online the last I looked but it's been several years. Here's a four-inch 686-3 to which I added them.

I owned several 4 inch k amd L frame revolvers with unusual trigger/combinations. Smith and Wesson is know for : distributor specials , agency orders or just different things done on customer request when they send the gun in.

I have a 686 no dash I have had since 1984 with a wide serrated target trigger, and a standard flash chromed hammer. The lighting makes it look like a chromed trigger, it isn't.
