Considering selling my stainless 686-5, my last .357 and I am considering consolidating ammuntion purchases. I have no idea what a fair price would be on this gun. I have reviewed GunBrokers finished auctions but none were for the 2 1/2" barrel. this is a six shot version with no lock. I would appricate any guidance anyone could offer. Just not sure if I want to move it or not. No need besides making room in the safe. It is gun only, no box or papers.

Well Dog wish I had the money, I would buy it from you. In Ohio it would go for $400 to 500 out the door. Sure you won't trade for something

freight you don't have an email posted-Whats its condition? Does it have any lead fouling or pits/rust under the grips? I am very interested and might even have a trade for you.

Here's my track and chart on the 686 Plus 2-1/2" Bbl. The six shooter would be a little less, maybe $25:

Smith & Wesson 686 Plus Revolver in .357 Magnum, .38 Special, Plus P, 2-1/2 in Bbl. Bluebook of Gun Values (29th Edition) indicates between $495 in 98% condition and $625 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 44 recorded prices for this model gun from $350 to $856 over a period of 1665 days ending January 29, 2009. The average price as of that date was $508. No refurbs, refinishes, regular sights, all represented as 95% or better, no distinction for import location or engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $932.

The dash 5 is a desirable model for those that abhor the internal lock, it's the last revision without it. If you still have the original box, papers, etc, that would increase the price. The 2-1/2 versions are relatively few and far between. People who have 'em seem to keep 'em and the demand is higher for them. Notice how the price trend appears dramatically steep compared to inflation evidenced by the (relative) Consumer Price Index change during the same period.

thanks 5wire, great information. I will also update my email address for the ones interested in a trade. Sorry new to the board and had not gotten all my info up.

for all of you that have asked... I am working on narrowing my collecton and am into Victories, anything military (would love a 1917) and moving towards 1911's primaraly.

Condition is good, no fouling, or rust that I can find. Honestly never shot the gun. I picked it up about a year ago and seems very clean. I will try to post up more pics tonight when I can get to it and a camera.

I bought this 686-5+ about a year and a half ago, like new with all paperwork and box, for $475 delivered. I added the stags.
