I recently bought a 686 2.5 inch and I think it says -6, but maybe -8. It is NIB and holds 6 rounds. Will I be able to get a NIB model 48 22mag for it? I am not well versed in S and W. Will Buds guns give me a fair deal. I would appreciate some advice. Im sure I paid too much for this 686. ($800.00) Ron

Welcome to the Forum. Trading is always full of variables, but in general a retail store (not just Bud's, which seems to be a fine business) needs to have a profit margin, meaning they will give you less than retail price for your NIB trade. (Think depreciation the moment you drive a new car off the dealer's lot.)

If you are looking for a model 48-7 a private owner might do an even trade, as their selling prices are pretty similar, or you might be behind a little. Hope this is helpful.

It's a -6. New production 686's are in the 6th "change." Is it a TALO edition or a regular 686? A TALO edition may bring you more money. You may want to try to sell it yourself and then purchase your new toy.

You definitely paid more than you needed to. That alone will ensure you get a lower percentage back for your gun.

If the model 48 retail price is anything close to a 686 no. If it were closer to a 642 retail price, you'd be much closer to getting that in trade.

Fair? Hard to say if it's fair.
Reasonable with respect to what you could get for it in a private sale/trade? Absolutely not!

If you want a fast, easy, low risk sale Bud's or another store is the place to go. However, those benefits come at a large cost to you.

If you want to receive as much as possible a private sale is the place to go. However, that sale may take a longer time, it may take more effort, and it may come with greater risk to you. Those things may bring a greater return to you though.

Thanks for the info. I will check local gun shops until I find something I want, and try to mak a trade. Thanks again.
