686 6"

Just looked at a very clean pre-lock 6" 686 with box and both original wood and Hogue grips. Started at $850 and now down to $700. Gun has been shot but locks up nice and tight. No marks in the finish. Just wondering if it is a good deal or still a bit high. Thanks

Do you know the year or "dash number"? For example:

686 no dash, 1980 introduced model
686-1, 1986, radius stud package, floating hand
686-2, 1987, changed hammer nose, bushing and associated parts
686-3, 1988, new yoke retention system
686-4, 1993, change rear sight leaf, drill and tap frame, change extractor, hogue grips
686-5, 1997, change frame design to eliminate cylinder stop stud, eliminate serrated tangs, change to MIM hammer with floating firing pin, change to MIM trigger, change internal lockwork
686-6, 2001, internal lock

I have an early one with 6 inch barrel I bought about 1983. I see nice examples of those down here in the SW in the $650-750 range in very nice condition with the box. Not new in box but not scratched up much either.

700 is not a bad price if it's in great shape, offer 600 and go from there.

They go for $700 here in Washington. Just sold one the other day for that price. Not mine. I don't sell mine.

I'm in Michigan, too and have been looking passively at 686s... 700-800 seems to be the norm depending on age, condition and completeness, (box/dox). I'm still looking for the 600 guns everyone on here is always talking about!

When I got my 686 (no dash, no M) a couple of years ago, it had nothing with it and was even without grips. I felt OK to give $550 in a "friends and family" deal, then added a pair of smooth combat finger groove grips and I'm good to go. I wanted it primarily for a shooter, so "We don' need no steeenkin' boxes!"

JMHO, YMMV of course.
