With a group like that, its time to try 100 yards.
Looks to be close to a minute of arc! (half inch at 50 yds)
It also looks like a 5 shot group, not counting the first shot.

Thanks, but it totalled 5.

I'm trying to get the MatchDot adjusted to that cheap, Wammart ammo (for shooting steel silhouettes at 50).

Final click produced the group of 4.

Those Remington's have pretty good ballistics for "Economy" rounds.

They perform very well for the price, as you proved on your target.

945 fps according to Ballistics 101.

The 586/686's are very accurate revolvers as your 50 yard target shows. I wish my 8 3/8ths inch 686 was drilled and tapped for scope mounts, but it is a dash 1 and I don't want to mess it up. Shoots like a carbine though

A Weaver #307 is for non-drilled frames.

Though out of production now, they are still out there on the market.

Hi Steamloco76,
When I purchased my two 586 no dash's in the early 80's,
I ordered a pistol scope mount from B-Square for my L-Frames.
No drilling required. You just remove your rear sight and mount
the B-Square scope mount in it's place on your top strap.

When you choose to use your rear sight again, just remove
the scope mount and replace in reverse order.

Obviously, I'm a total noob at this 50yd silhouette shooting thing, but I've quickly learned that handguns can be VERY accurate at that distance.

And, just yesterday, I was reminded of the old adage "Aim Small - Miss Small".

To help me see the target at 50yds, I used those "SMALL" orange stickies.

And it worked wonders with my accuracy.

Thanks for letting a rookie act all excited about shooting.

Many of you old hands have been shooting better than this and doing it for a long, long time!

Man I hate fliers! I almost had a sub 1" five shot group, standing unsupported and shooting DA at 20 yards, from my model 10 last night. Four of them measured 0.94", but the five measured 2.89". Normally, I'd be thrilled with a sub 3" group shooting DA at 20 yards. Stupid flier.

Doc, It looks like you have a tack driver there. Keep going. We all want to see that 1 hole five shot group. We know you've got it in you.
