686 box question

I have an early 686 no dash, serial number AAF4xxx. The SCSW dates it as 1982. Does anyone know what kind of box these came in? It seems to be around the time S&W transitioned from the 2 piece box to the 1 piece box.

It wolud have come in the one piece box with the cardboard liner.Thats the way mine came.

My recollection is that the L frames were supplied in the one piece cardboard box from the beginning.

I own a 686 box, no gun just the box, that is in a blue two piece box. Here are some pics.

Mine came with the blue box, like the one pictured above.
The serial number is AACxxxx
