Does anyone have any information on these types of guns?

Thanks in advance!

John Jovino made the Effector guns. Among other mods, the barrels were shortened as much as they could while still retaining the ejector rod latch. I've never seen an L-frame version only N-frames, interesting. Jovino guns are top quality customs and pretty hard to find.

ETA: If you google "jovino 686 effector" you'll find a few links, most of which are to this forum. Apparently Jovino made a few of them, you're quite lucky to have found that one. Where'd you find it? What kind of deal did you get?
FYI, that tritium insert in the front sight is not original.

WC145 Thanks for the info. It was given to me. Any thoughts best way of getting it authenticated or value?

That's a heck of a gift! As far as authentication, it is well known that the Effectors were Jovino guns though there's a chance that someone has tried to fake one. Does the person you got the gun from have any history on it? That's usually a good place to start. The John Jovino gun shop is still around, they're in NY City, I don't know what records they may still have. It would be worth contacting them to see what they can tell you. Also, some folks here have had their Jovino guns lettered and found that they were shipped directly to Jovino's from S&W, so that might be worthwhile as well. Of course, I'm sure that Jovino customized customers guns as well so if you have it lettered and find out that it was delivered to a different shop that doesn't mean that it isn't authentic.

Do us all a favor and post some more/better pics, that's a gun you don't see every day.:)

Cool Jovino! I happened to just find a 629 Jovino the other day. Didn't know a thing about them but did a little research and some people here helped me out too. Probably don't contact Jovino gun shop I don't believe they kept records. S&W would probably be your best bet. I am going to get mine lettered even though I am certain it is the genuine article. When I pass it on to my boys someday someone will want that letter. I love the history behind them and I am convinced I came across the very best bear country carry gun there is. Yours is beautiful, I am surprised to see the hammer is not shaped differently as mine is and every other one I've seen here. That is a great gun and very unique not worth ever getting rid of in my opinion. By the way, you owe whoever gave that to you a steak at least...LOL!

CPTLCN and WC145 Thank you for the information. I appreciate it. I will contact S&W. I have no history for the gun. I am not planning on getting rid of it, I am just trying to make sure I understand what I have. You are right on the steak dinner!

CPTLCN can you post a picture of yours so I can see the hammer difference?

Are the grips correct?
