I have a 686+ 3". I have a bit of a problem extracting 357 mag empty cases (not all fall out). Not a problem with 38 special. Checked a friend's 66 2.5 in and both don't clear the ejection travel on the ejection rod. Have checked it against a 19-1 4", 66 6in no dash, 686 6 in no dash of mine. Do I need to slap the ejection rod a little harder under a forced reload? I don't think the chambers are rough or would a little polish help the situation? It seems that the nickle cases are real good, brass a little lower, and the aluminum Blazers are the worst. That is full house mag factories. I thought about polishing the aluminum cases. These are for CCW. I would hate to be in a forced situation where I couldn't reload due to ejection isssues. I carry Bianci speed strips in my pocket. Or do I need a bit longer ejector rod?

My guess would be the fouling from the shorter 38 specials is interfearing with the longer 357 mags. Some heavy scrubing or overnight soaking of the cylinder may be in order. Check the cylinders and see if there is a lot of fouling where a 38 special case would end. I have a 686+ with 4" barrel that I dearly love.

Exact same issue happened to me. Been shoot mostly .38. Shine a small flashlight in the cylinder and you'll see a black ring where the shorter .38 end. I soaked mine overnight in Hoppes and used a .40 brush (little larger) to scrub it out. I have since ordered chamber brushes from brownells (link below) they are larger than bore brushes and stiffer. Do a great job.
