Guys and Gals you must bear with me on this one. I received a 6" 686 yesterday. The gun seems to be in perfect condition except for the front sight. It appears that there was a fiber optic or something that is now missing. There is a dove tail inset going up the sight but some thing is missing. I am real new to S&W Revolvers and instead of searching around the internet I thought I would ask here. My question is can I buy a new fiberoptic or what ever is missing for this or am I stuck.
Thanks
Scott

If it still has the ramp then it was most likely a standard red ramp sight. The fiber optics will be flat and have a hole front-to-rear for the rod. Brownells did sell a insert kit for S&W sights, red insert material that just pressed in and then you filed off the excess.

Can you post a photo? I have a 686-5 that has a Hi-Viz front sight but it is pinned in and has no dovetail. If you gun has a front dovetail it should be relatively easy to fix.

After looking around a little. It is the red ramp. I will see if I can find the replacement. I local (semi) gunsmith said he would fix it with epoxy. I'll look around first.
Thanks
Scott
