686 Gunsmith

Hi! I'm new to S&W Forum and this is my first post. I have an almost new 1986 686 with a 6" barrel. I am looking to cut to 4 inches and install a Weigand front sight. Any help finding a good gunsmith would be appreciated. I don't seem to be able to find inserts for the Weigand sight. Thanks guys, any information would be a great help!

Don't know of SC gunsmiths -- nearest I'm aware of with a quality reputation is Matt Almeda at Revolver Armorer in Suffolk, Va. Might be a manageable day trip for you, if you like to do business in person.

If you're planning on shipping the 686, your options open significantly.

Looking at their site, looks like Weigand has discontinued this item. Doesn't mean there aren't parts somewhere out there, but might make plans a little more difficult.
